Evaluation Services

WITH APPROVAL OF THE COMMITTEE ON PRESCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION (CPSE) WE CONDUCT EVALUATIONS FOR YOUR CHILD AT NO COST TO YOU.

EVALUATIONS CAN BE CONDUCTED AT OUR CENTER OR YOUR HOME

If you suspect your child may be in need of special education services

(including speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy or special instruction):

  • The first step is to contact the Committee on Preschool Special Education or CPSE in your neighborhood to make a referral and request an evaluation packet.  You can also contact our evaluations department, and we can refer the child on your behalf.

  1. Once you make the referral, a packet will be generated and mailed to your home by the CPSE district.
  2. Once the packet is received, you can call the Evaluations Department at our school to immediately schedule your child’s evaluations.  Our school and evaluators are conducting the evaluations on behalf of the CPSE.  The evaluation site only provides the evaluations.  The CPSE determines eligibility for services, service delivery, and placement.
  3. The process will be reviewed with you, and you will be required to sign the consent form before the evaluations begin.  The first part of the evaluation is a social history, at which point information about your child is collected through a parent interview.  Then a psychological and educational evaluation is conducted looking at an overview of your child’s cognitive, language, motor, and adaptive functioning.  Based on these evaluations and your concerns, more evaluations can be done in order to get a more comprehensive picture of your child, including speech, occupational, and physical. We will also need a prescription form completed by your pediatrician authorizing these additional evaluations.
  4. You will be asked for the medical form completed by your pediatrician and a copy of your child’s birth certificate.
  5. Following the completion of the evaluations, the coordinator from Parsons Preschool will speak to you regarding the evaluations and the findings, and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions.
  6. A meeting will be scheduled and held by the CPSE to review the results and eligibility, service delivery, and placement will be determined.  An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will be generated, outlining a summary of recommended services, i.e.; speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, etc.  At the meeting, the CPSE will review potential programs and therapy sites with you in order for services to begin following the meeting.
